A key part of W Hamond heritage, Whitby Jet is one of the first gemstones we started working with and has remained a signature part of our collections over the years. It will be the first time Faberge have crafted pieces using this British gemstone, and we are proud and privileged to elevate our local gemstone into the world of luxury jewels. Whitby Jet is one of just a few organic gemstones in the world naturally formed from fossilised wood, like that of the Monkey Puzzle or Araucaria tree. Millions of years ago, this wood became washed up into a body of water and covered by organic sediment. The pressure beneath all this matter over so many years eventually compacted the wood and transformed it into what we know as Whitby Jet today. Our skilled craftsmen work with the natural material, transforming each stone into a unique, finished piece that brings the beauty of Whitby Jet to life. The Egg pendant is 22mm and hangs on a Faberge 50cm, 18ct yellow gold chain. This pendant comes beautifully packaged in a unique Faberge presentation box with certificate of authenticity.
